Following several inquiries, I
am offering an upgrade kit the 1801 loudspeaker. This kit includes all
the replacement parts necessary to fully upgrade the 1801 to 1801b
configuration. The user will need to wire a completely new crossover
for their 1801b loudspeaker.
In my opinion, upgrading the
1801 to the 1801b is marginally wise. While the 1801b does sound
better, the original 1801 crossover components and typology remain very good. As of September
2003 a few folks have compared the 1801 to 1801b and reported favorable
results with the 1801b crossover. This confirms our initial
perception that the 1801b was indeed superior than the original 1801. I
believe the 1801b upgrade is quite worthwhile if the original 1801
crossover was constructed with standard grade Solen/Eagle crossover
components. Purchasing the new crossover will improve the quality and
typology of the crossover in this 1801 loudspeaker. If the original
1801 crossover uses Goertz foil and AudioCap components then the advantages with
the 1801b crossover are lesser. I realize these comments lack hype and
zeal, but I don't have a marketing department coercing me to stretch the
truth.
